I think it’s time for you to call the police- mother or not this is a case of identity theft- ask them what you can do- I believe you will have to call these credit card companies and tell them you did NOT open these cards and try to attempt to get this off your credit.

I’m sorry you are going through this.

Your mother can’t do that. You could actually sue her for that. I hope you chose a career that pays alot. Over time use your money wisely so you can pay off your debts and then worry about all your wants and luxuries.

You need to figure out where you legally stand. There should be someone with your credit agencies that can help you with that.

Make sure you document EVERYTHING you can and draw the line between what she’s done and what you’ve done. Contact someone ASAP at your creditors.

Well with the $30k you mom accumulated under your name, you are not liable for but you MUST file a police report. For the $40k and any other debt you may have, I suggest you visit daveramsey.com and follow his advice and plan, it works!

    File a police report.

Obtain copies of your credit history from the 3 national credit reporting agencies: go to
You get 1 free report from each company yearly.

Call the credit card companies and report that you are the victim of identity theft perpetrated by your mother. Make it very clear that you did not know anything about your mother opening these accounts in your name. Have the credit agencies put freezes on your identity so that no more accounts can be opened without contacting you directly.

Well..your mother is in big touble.. She has commited fraud and identity theft.. So, first of all you need to make a call to the police and see who you need to report this to..

As far as student loans you should have been given a repayment schedule.. My fiance pays $100 per month but that’s like for 20 years so we will try to pay off sooner to reduce intrest..

You just graduated so that 30K will kill you.

Sometimes you have to make an adult decision. File a police report now and inside it will sort of feel horrible. But do so now and later you will be able to help her if needed.

Later down the road it will be sorted out at a personal level.

Get one of those id safeguard services (like Life Lock) so next time she try to use your id she won’t get the account. She did it before she can do it again. The most common form of id theft is by family members.
You can report you mom for id theft. The court may make her pay for those debts but she may go to jail also.
You can lower your payments by consolidating your student loans. Finally go to your local bank and ask for a signature loan to consolidate all your credit card debt. Once your loan is approved close all the credit cards account.
